Behind The Policy
About us

We explain EU policy. We don't campaign about it.

Behind The Policy is an independent editorial project that turns the language of Brussels into something a curious reader can actually understand — without spin, and without taking sides.

Why plain language matters

The EU makes decisions every week that shape food prices, digital rights, migration, climate rules, healthcare, and how much data big tech companies can gather about you. But the way those decisions get communicated — directives, trilogues, delegated acts, co-decision — is designed for lawyers, not citizens. That gap between what's decided and what people understand is what we exist to close.

Editorial independence and non-partisanship

We are strictly non-partisan. We do not campaign for or against any political party, member state, or EU institution. We describe what a policy says, who supported it, who opposed it, and what it means for daily life — but we don't tell you what to think about it.

Every explainer links to the official primary source so you can read the original text yourself.

Who's behind it

Behind The Policy is written by a small team of policy researchers and editors based across the EU. Author profiles are added to each piece with a short bio. We welcome corrections — every article has a contact link.
